Indications/Uses
Immunodeficiency syndrome & primary Ab deficiency eg, congenital agammaglobulinemia. Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), Kawasaki & Guillain-Barre syndrome.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IV Primary Ab deficiencies Initially 400-800 mg/kg, then 200 mg/kg for IV infusion every 3 wk adjusted if necessary. Maintenance: 200-800 mg/kg/mth. Patient w/ secondary immunodeficiency syndrome 200-400 mg/kg every 3-4 wk. Kawasaki syndrome 1.6-2 g in divided doses over 2-5 days or 2 g/kg as a single dose. ITP 400 mg/kg daily for 2-5 consecutive days. Alternatively, 800-1,000 mg/kg given on day 1 & repeated on day 3 if necessary. Bone marrow transplantation 500 mg/kg wkly, adjusted according to response. Guillain-Barre syndrome 400 mg/kg for 5 days.
Contraindications
Patients w/ anaphylactic or systemic response to Ig & w/ selective IgA deficiencies.
Special Precautions
Do not administer IM or SC. Risk of anaphylactic reactions in patients w/ IgA deficiencies. Pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
Local reactions w/ pain & tenderness at the inj site; hypersensitivity; sytemic reactions w/ fever, chills, facial flushing, headache & nausea.
